Howie Roseman: Eagles Made Mistakes Paying 'Guys Who Aren't Our Own'

Jun 30, 2016 8:37 AM

Howie Roseman prefers to build an NFL team by drafting well and keeping his own players.

The Philadelphia Eagles general manager says the team faltered last year by going too hard after free agents who ultimately didn't produce.

"When you look at it, some of the mistakes we've made have been going out and spending a lot of money," Roseman said. "A lot of those mistakes were on guys that aren't our own. They were guys that we've brought from another organization, and we thought we knew."

Roseman didn't identify players by name, but he was clearly referring to DeMarco Murray and Byron Maxwell.

Seahawks Agree To Four-Year, $46M Extension With Doug Baldwin

Jun 29, 2016 3:27 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a four-year, $46 million contract extension with Doug Baldwin.

The agreement keeps Baldwin under control through the 2020 season and includes $24.25 million in guarantees, according to a report.

The $11.5 million average annual value represents a steep increase following the three-year, $13 million deal Baldwin signed with Seattle before the 2014 season.

Baldwin tied the NFL lead with 14 receiving touchdowns last season.

Emmanuel Sanders Letting Representatives Handle Talks With Broncos

Jun 26, 2016 8:49 AM

Emmanuel Sanders is entering the final year of his contract with the Denver Broncos and a contract extension appears possible.

The wide receiver has said all the right things, claiming that he's leaving talks up to his representatives.

"I don't think it weighs on me," Sanders said of his situation. "I think it weighs on other people and then they talk about [it] and it's like, 'All right, you're trying to put the weight on me.' If I could just keep my ears closed and not listen to the noise, I wouldn't even know this is a contract year.

"For me, it's going to come. If it's meant for me, it's meant for me. But I'm going to keep playing ball because I love to do it."

Sanders, 29, has caught 177 passes and 15 touchdowns over his two seasons in Denver.

Steelers Cut Shaun Suisham After Injury Setback

Jun 25, 2016 8:17 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released Shaun Suisham after the kicker suffered an injury setback.

"Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won't allow him to compete in a timely manner," Kevin Colbert said in a statement. "Shaun has played a significant role in our success during his time in Pittsburgh. He has been the consummate professional on the field and in our community. We wish he and his family all the best in the future."

Suisham missed all of 2015 after tearing his ACL in the team's first preseason game. He was cut on Friday with a failed physical designation.

He joined the Steelers in 2010 after bouncing around with four other NFL teams.

Charles Tillman Only Wants To Play For Panthers

Jun 21, 2016 8:25 AM

Charles Tillman only wants to play for the Carolina Panthers if he returns for a 14th NFL season.

Tillman continues his rehab from surgery five months ago to repair his torn ACL.

"I just want to play for Carolina," he said.

Tillman tore his ACL in Week 17 last season, forcing him to miss Carolina's run to the Super Bowl. On Saturday, he said he's "probably another two months" away from being able to contribute, and if he signs with a team it likely would be near the end of training camp.

Eugene Monroe Believes Marijuana Advocacy Contributed To His Release

Jun 16, 2016 3:40 PM

The Baltimore Ravens released Eugene Monroe on Wednesday and the tackle believes his marijuana advocacy contributed to the decision.

The Ravens said his role in pushing for NFL players to be able to use marijuana didn't play a role, but made it clear that they didn't support his advocacy.

Monroe believes it very much played a role.

"I can't say for sure whether or not my stance on medical cannabis was the reason the Ravens released me," Monroe told the New York Times. "However, as I've said in the past, they have distanced themselves from me and made it clear that they do not support my advocacy."

Monroe was due a $6.5 million salary this season, he has a history of injuries and Baltimore selected offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley with the sixth overall pick in the draft.

Bell, who suffered the knee injury in Week 8 last season, tore the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments.
